Today’s nature note — a purple geophyte

The other morning I came upon a new wild plant shooting up from the gravel path. It is rather unusual – a reddish purple stalk at the end of which is a spike of clustered round buds. Since yesterday the stem has doubled its height. It looks like the spike of an oversized scilla or some other geophyte. But it could also be some sort of parasitic plant. Does anyone have a clue?
