A haiku on the midsummer moon

A day before the summer solstice, I was startled from sleep by a flare of light filling the bedroom. It turned out, amazingly, to be caused by the almost-full moon, dipping low as dawn approached, reflected on the bedroom mirror. A strange, wondrous sight — the brilliance of two moons at my bedside – that I could not resist a haiku. Pity I was not awake enough to think of recording the phenomenon with my camera. This photo, taken at twilight just a few hours before, will have to do.

Towards dawn, the moon, quite full

gazed in the mirror —-

Dazzling her blazing twin!

Pine moon cropt
